Who is HR Mami?
I get asked too often how did I end up in HR?

It was an internal debate to pick how to start an introduction of myself, but I can start with my government name. LOL My parents decided to name me Janet Guadalupe Martinez Aguilar, of course with the length and style - you guessed it! I am a proud CATHOLIC LATINA, born in Mexico City in the literal middle of the 90’s - 1995!
Exactly 6 years and 7 months later, my family migrated to the United States and started living in the busy city of Dallas, TX. It is hard to recall the last memory from my motherland, but I clearly remember the family who was there to greet us goodbye, especially my grandfathers and tio Angel.
Shortly after arriving in Dallas, my mom’s baby brother or tio Julio helped us register for school. I do have a BIG older brother, emphasis on that word! He currently weighs 350 pounds and is 6 feet and 3 inches tall while I am 142 pounds (I will eventually push myself to drop some, one day) and I am the nice average height of 5 feet and 2 inches tall. As you can possibly imagine already, we are TOTALLY DIFFERENT!
When we started school, I remember my 1st grade class being the first time I had been officially introduced to an African American person. It was not only a nerve wrecking moment because I was unfamiliar with other ethnicities but the English language was not in my vocabulary! Mrs. Washington and my classmates would be responsible for teaching me, I am still impressed about how quickly I picked up English in a few months to read, speak, and write. I will make sure to post a picture of my award I received for this.
We stayed in Dallas, TX until the end of my 3rd grade year, we moved after our apartment was burnt down. 2004, my family moved into the City of Champions - Duncanville, TX, fun fact - Greg Abbott was raised in this town & we have been here since then! It has been 19 years in these streets, stores, parks, and schools. I graduated from Duncanville High School in 2013 and went into UNT Dallas in 2013 where I earned both my Bachelor’s degree and Master’s in Business Administration focusing in HR Management! I met my husband in 2014 (I can share that story another day), we got married in 2016 then again through our church ceremony in 2021!
In 2018, I actually dropped out of my first semester for the MBA because my SONshine was coming our way - this is the one who made me a mami, Cristian Hector or CJ or Zinga. When I decided to pursue the HR degree in my undergraduate studies, I updated my resume for a class project and used it to apply after renewing my DACA that year in 2015, after a few interviews I ended up at Del Monte Fresh Produce as an HR Assistant and fell in love with the HR field.
Throughout the years, I have worked in different positions in Human Resources and businesses but the goal remains the same, advocate for the people while achieving organizational goals! I am also a non-profit founder for POCA, a sister of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Incorporated, a loyal member of Santa Clara of Assisi Catholic Parish, a daughter, sister, tia, prima, friend and immigrant community advocate.
2022 brought so many changes to my life, career, and family but the one that inspired me to start this specific journey to share skills and story is my PREGNANCY LOSS!
