The last blog I covered how important it is to focus attention on choosing the best industry for you or your business endeavors. And part of the reason to make that decision is the levels of stress can vary depending on the areas of practice that are involved. Each of the industries have different factors that cause or bring the stress, so it is important to evaluate what level of stress you prefer to handle.

Realize that I used the word “prefer” as it is practically impossible for anyone to avoid stress throughout their lifetime. It is a natural human instinct to feel stress but certain industries or areas of work can lead more quickly into stressful conditions than others.

Below is a short list to consider when making decisions about a workplace or career to pursue.

  • Work Hours

  • Work Load

  • Deadlines Involved

  • Support Available

  • Demand Season(s)

  • Overall Control

  • Possible Changes

And so many more!

Particularly in Human Resources, one of the bigger stress factors would be the employee lifecycle part when employment ends - we have no idea how any person affected will react!

In my current situation, I have been facing the search for employment after the last organization I worked with did not have the best approach about my performance. Now, I did perform to my best ability after my pregnancy loss but it was not enough for them anymore. I am sure you can imagine, I was not myself after losing a baby!

They gave me the bereavement time, some vacation days, and it happened around the holidays - December 18th! A total of almost two entire weeks was the time I had to face the loss, go through procedures and medical visits, while trying to recover not only emotionally and physically but I do not believe I even started mentally healing!

The situation has been entirely too stressful that once I returned to that business, everything was hard for me to get done. I was not okay to be their HR leader anymore, but I did manage to get through an entire two weeks after returning! How did I get through it?

I share once again, writing has played a true important role in this process for me. Music has been another tool, PRAYING through rosary novenas, and reminding myself how strong I have been for a while and truly taking the time to appreciate my skills and abilities!

If you do not have any stress relief tools in your kit, I strongly encourage you all to find them & use them each day!

Stress can cause so many problems personally, physically, professionally, mentally, and everyone around you gets affected.

The mood swings are harmful, your loss of confidence and commitment weigh down your family too, and the increase of emotional impulse can be extremely dangerous! Make the best industry choice for yourself and make sure to explore appropriately to avoid the highest stress!
